Who Admires You?

April 23, 2012
The most difficult thing we may have to do each day is assess who we are and how we feel about ourselves.  The power we have to determine our own attitude is comically told in this story.

“A famous clown from the circus feeling depressed visits a doctor.  The doctor doesn’t recognize the celebrity without his makeup.  The doctor after talking with the man says the best thing he can prescribe for him is a a visit to the circus to watch a famous clown at work.”  (Adapted from Biblical Archaelogical Review, May/June 2012, p.15)

Let’s not sell ourselves short.  Many people admire us for what they see.  If we could see ourselves the way others see us, even superficially, we would feel better in most circumstances.  So for many of us, we have the medicine to help ourselves.  This may be one interpretation for the Savior’s comment, “. . . Physician, heal thyself . . .” (Luke 4:23.)

Bruce’s Favorite Quote:

"I love that man better who swears a stream as long as my arm yet deals justice to his neighbors, and mercifully deals his substance to the poor, than the long, smooth-faced hypocrite . . . God judges men according to the use they make of the light which He gives them." (Joseph Smith, HC 5:401)
