Education:
Doctor’s Degree: J.D. (Juris Doctor law degree: 1975) – Bruce completed a three year law degree program in two years and was the first graduate of the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University.
Master’s Degree: M.P.A. (Master of Public Administration degree: 1973) – B.Y.U. School of Management.
Bachelor’s Degree: B.A. (Bachelor of Arts degree: 1971). Bruce went to BYU on a debate scholarship and received his B.A. degree in communications. While there he was the winner in oratory and extemporaneous speaking university-wide contests.
Business and Management:
Bruce is the author of Bruce Barton’s ScriptureKITTM Books 1 and 2, an innovative scripture system opening a whole new way of study and learning. . He has devoted years to the goal of making the scriptures more meaningful to others. The ScriptureKIT system is the result. Bruce also conducts practical workshops, webinars and seminars on many subjects including studying and marking the scriptures, strengthening your marriage, American History and the Holy Land.
For 14 years Bruce was president of Mission Health Services, a nonprofit corporation with four skilled nursing facilities in Utah. For 7 years Bruce was the city manager of Layton, Utah. He served as president of the Utah City Manager’s Association and in 1991 was named Utah City Administrator of the year. He worked part-time as manager of the Wilkinson Center (BYU’s student center) while at the same time obtaining his MPA and JD degrees at Brigham Young University.
Teaching:
Bruce has taught workshops, seminars, firesides, and lectured in the Church Educational System at Education Week on various subjects including scripture study. Over the years, he has been a gospel doctrine teacher in several wards and an instructor in elder’s quorums and high priest’s groups. Bruce and his wife presently teach a Book of Mormon Institute class.
Legal:
Ever since 1975, Bruce has had a general law and trial practice with an emphasis on litigation and estate planning. He was a city attorney for 10 years and he was a corporate general counsel for 14 years. He has served as president of the Utah City Attorney’s Association.
Personal:
Bruce fulfilled a two-year LDS mission to Australia in 1966. He has served in a stake mission presidency and a BYU branch presidency. He has been an elder’s quorum president, a Sunday School president, a seventy, a high councilman and a home teacher. Bruce takes tours to Israel, Egypt, Jordan and American History tours to Washington and Virginia. He has been a Kiwanis Club president and Davis County United Way president and board member.
Individual & Family:
Bruce was born in 1947 at Preston, Idaho. He spent most his life in . . . until he served an LDS mission. He met his wife, Patricia, in . . . and they were married in . . . . They have six children (two girls and four boys) and . . . grandchildren. You can see her blog here. Bruce enjoys teaching, politics, golf, the stock market, family vacations and playing chess with his eleven-year-old granddaughter because sometimes he even wins! One of his favorite sayings is “Don’t Die Dumb.”
